This is quite well done - but it'd be great if you'd include some links to proof, and to the 400 alternatives.... I would really like to know about them. I am against animal testing, but at the same time, if something or someone has to get this stuff in their eye before they can release something onto the market, I'd rather see it happen to a rat or rabbit than a human. If there are alternatives where no animal or being gets it in the eyes...I'd like to know what.

to be honest - humans have a choice, they volunteer for testing, i'd rather someone of their own free will (notice someone not something as i believe animals shouldn't be classed as "things") than someone be forced to participate against their will

The rabbits don't use this shit, so why should they have to suffer it going in their eyes? I think if so many other companies can make cosmetics without putting it in animal's eyes there must be another way to do it. If a person is that desperate for it to be tested, they should offer their own eyes, not the eyes of others.
And even after all this, the rabbit's eye is different to ours, what is it doesn't effect their eyes, but does effect ours? Seems like a big, pointless experiment done by people who just want to play around like 5 year olds to me.
I know that rabbits don't use it...but rather than risk permanent eye damage on a human, I would rather see it done to a rabbit.
That doesn't mean I'd like to see it happen to a rabbit, or it should be. But if it has to be tested then in my opinion, a human eye, or life for that matter, is of more worth for me than a rabbits'. A rabbits eye is not unlike ours really btw, most mammals have eyes that are of a similar makeup.
No "person" is desparate to be tested, but these things have to be tested before going onto the market..it's almost like medicine. Imagine a product that comes onto the market and within a month your company is inundated with reports that people are going blind from repeated use of your shampoo. There would be no trust anymore in products containing chemicals (so almost anything), the interest in shampoos, hygiene products, beauty products would die overnight. The same with medicine...advanced testing is of course done on humans, but before that stage animal testing has to take place...they are playing with lives. People need to be able to trust medicine...otherwise we go back to the middle ages.
I do agree with you that the experiments on animals should never be of a pointless nature however... and that's why I asked for a few links so I can look into the real alternatives that could be used to prevent things like this happening to any animal.

Secretmuse, you're right in saying a product has to be tested.
I disagree, however, with how the product should be tested. As stated, there is no law to require animal testing. It is done to get the product out onto the market as quickly as possible - before the competition. It's also an easier and cheaper way of testing.
The Body Shop, Co-op brands, Simple, Beauty Without Cruelty, The Source, Avon cosmetics, Botanics, Malibu sun products and even Chanel do not test on animals - to name some of the many companies!
As for medical testing, that's a whole new argument which I won't start, expect to add that drugs tested on animals have been found to seriously harm or kill 90% of humans when tested in human trials - the animal model simply cannot predict what'll happen to humans. For example, the only reason cigarettes are on the market is because they made dogs smoke them and they were proved "safe", i.e. the dogs never developed any negative symptoms whatsoever. Same with Thalidomide which has now caused seriously deformed babies, Absestos which has gone on to cause cancer, and more recently Ibuprofen which has now been found to cause heart problems and Seroxat - an anti-depressant - causing suicide in teenagers.
"And even after all this, the rabbit's eye is different to ours, what is it doesn't effect their eyes, but does effect ours? Seems like a big, pointless experiment done by people who just want to play around like 5 year olds to me."
Thanks, normally people just don't get that one - they're too wrapped up in a social norm that "animals are essential in research" - something they're told since birth and accept. Is it not obvious, just by looking at the media stories about yet more drugs which have harmed people, that animal testing is just not working?

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
